Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few years you can’t have failed to notice the rise of The Prototypes! The Brighton based due have released on some of the scenes biggest labels, including the huge club anthems Lights, Pop It Off & Pale Blue Dot, and who can forget their energy packed Odyssey sets covering the history of drum and bass with some of the D&B scene’s biggest MC’s?

Ahead of their appearance at the forthcoming Innovation In The Dam weekender, we managed to catch up with the guys to find out what they’re working on at the minute, talk about the recent sound science based video for their latest single, and of course their thoughts on their debut In The Dam show….

Tell us about your new single Transmission, the video for that looks nuts

We were approached by UKF & Desperados early on in the year about getting involved in this project & they wanted a track from us to go with a big budget video that featured experiments all triggered by bass & sound… It was mind blowing being part of it & we are proud of the end results

You’ve been signed to Shogun Audio, then Viper, both huge labels, but now you’ve launched your own Get Hype imprint. What was the thinking behind that?

To be honest we just wanted to take control of our destiny, we both decided we wanted to do our thing without having to clear it with anyone – This is something that we feel loads more artists will do – Being on those labels got us to this point so we can’t complain about that, but moving forward we are our own bosses and it’s a great feeling!

Is the label going to be purely for your own material or will you be looking for new talent?

We are certainly going to put out other artists music… We have just signed somebody brand new & also have signed some other tracks from new producers – These are exciting times in the Get Hype camp. Ultimately we want our label to be as big as Breakbeat Kaos was, that’s what we are aiming for.

Of course you’ll be joining us at Innovation In the Dam. Will this be your first time playing for us out there?

It is indeed our first time at Innovation in the Dam! However we have played at the Melkweg venue before & it’s one of our favourite clubs in Europe.

What are you expecting? I’ll prepare you by saying it’s totally different to the In The Sun parties you’ve played at

Well having seen videos of it we are expecting some flying stages, loads of hot dancers & infinite alcohol to go with thousand of ravers – Good times!

You guys play all over the world, do you have one essential travel tip to share with the Innovation ravers that will be heading out to Amsterdam?

Always get the reception to give you a wake up call as I miss waaaaaaaaay to many flights sleeping through my alarm!!!

Finally what’s next for The Prototypes?

We’ve got some big remixes in the works, but for now we are concentrating on launching a new artist and releasing loads of great new Drum & Bass music
